About This Blog

The original purpose of this blog was to get Maryland’s 2014 gubernatorial candidates on record regarding three electoral reforms I believe are desperately needed in the state: 1) Outlawing candidate slates; 2) outlawing “sample ballots” used by candidate slates as political advertisements; and 3) establishment of an independent, nonpartisan system for drawing legislative and congressional districts.

Now that the 2014 election is history, I will continue my advocacy toward these same goals. We still need to get rid of candidate slates and their sample ballot advertisements. Thanks to our Republican governor we are having serious discussions about redistricting reform, but even in that area actual change is far from guaranteed.

All of these issues are tied to the grip the Maryland political machine has on our system. Thus, to have real elections and real democracy, we must break the political machine!
